Every month answers four questions: what to sow, what to plant, what to harvest - and what else needs doing at the bed.
All 37 crops in one annual overview - from tomato and cucumber to lamb’s lettuce, garlic and kale.
Good and bad neighbours for 18 crops - in a raised bed everything grows closer together than in open ground.
Heavy, medium and light feeders: how to zone the bed and plan rotation over four years.
Sowing time, row spacing and days to harvest - the key numbers per crop, calculated for raised-bed conditions.
Frost-hardy varieties from lamb’s lettuce to winter leek - and what still works under the cover in January.
A raised bed follows its own schedule: the decomposing filling releases warmth, so the soil warms up earlier and cools down later. Your bed runs two to four weeks ahead of open ground - and planting is denser because more nutrients and water are available. Every date and spacing in this calendar is tuned to exactly that.
From Carinthia since 1929
Behind this calendar is the Buttazoni family from Himmelberg in Carinthia, Austria - metalworkers since 1929, a family business in its third generation. Their workshop builds the Ursula raised bed: thermally insulated, made of specially galvanised steel, built to measure.
Designed, built and assembled in our own workshop in Carinthia. No middlemen, no flat-pack kit from overseas.
Length, width and height to fit your space - including terraces, balconies and accessible working heights.
Specially galvanised steel does not rust through and needs no upkeep. A bed you set up once.
